Snow in the next 24 hours · Atlanta
Updated 7:30 AMSnow is rare in Atlanta, and freezing rain is the bigger danger: a thin glaze of ice is enough to bring roads in the metro area to a standstill.
How to read the snow map
Each type of precipitation has its color, each color four steps: the darker, the heavier.
Blue is snow
The darker the blue, the heavier it snows — from light flurries to bands dropping close to half an inch of snow an hour.
Lilac is sleet and wet snow
Wet snow, or rain and snow mixed. It marks the rain–snow line of a winter storm: roads turn to slush fast.
Pink is freezing rain
Freezing rain, freezing drizzle and ice pellets — what makes an ice storm. Even a little glazes roads and power lines, so pink stays bright at any rate.
Green is rain
Liquid precipitation. Where green meets blue, that is the rain–snow line right now.
